The study cited in Internet Retailer reviewed 53 retail web sites, some sites optimized and some not optimized for mobile devices. The study showed that consumers shopping on smart phones engaged in higher total purchases. In addition, their average orders were higher in value when buying from optimized sites. In fact, average order values for shoppers on mobile-optimized sites were 102% of the average order values for sales when shoppers used pcs — on the same retail sites.
Impulsive buying on mobile devices
Consumers who buy on smartphones tend to be impulsive buyers (80% of buyers admit their purchases are impulsive driven — Huffington Post. Mobile device purchases do not necessarily occur just because consumers are searching and buying while on the go. According to Google, people do 77% of their internet searches on smartphones or tablets at home— where pcs are also available. Overall, people find mobile devices more convenient than pcs.
